Why course handicap exists
The index is portable; the strokes are local: index × slope ÷ 113 converts your capability into strokes for THIS tee on THIS course. A 14.2 index gets 17 strokes from the back tees (slope 132) and 12 from the forward ones — matching the challenge each set of tees poses to your game.
The tee-selection insight
Playing tees that match your distance (total drive × 28 ≈ recommended course yardage) improves pace, scores, and enjoyment simultaneously. Moving forward is not a concession — it is course management, and the course handicap math adjusts the strokes honestly as you move.
Stroke allocation on the card
Course handicap strokes apply by stroke index: the SI-1 hole gets your first stroke, SI-2 the second, cycling through. For handicap purposes the allocation is automatic; for matches, knowing where your strokes land is where the strategy lives.
